PRESS ADVISORY  August 15, 2002

The Department of Defense is finalizing plans for its observance
of the Sept. 11th terrorist attack on the Pentagon.  The
approximately one-hour ceremony is scheduled to take place on
Sept. 11, 2002, beginning at 9:00 a.m. EDT at the Phoenix

ceremony features addresses by President George W. Bush,
Secretary of Defense Donald H. Rumsfeld and Chairman of the
Joint Chiefs of Staff Gen. Richard B. Myers. The large U.S. flag
flown on the side of the Pentagon after the Sept. 11th  attack
will be unfurled in the same location during the ceremony, and a
moment of silence will be observed at 9:37 a.m., the time at
which American Airlines Flight 77 hit the Pentagon on Sept.

The ceremony is not open to the general public.  For media
