Subject: When Do Veterans Cease being Veterans?
Date: Sat, 5 Aug 2000 21:02:29 -0500

Is it when they become ill?

Is it when they require medical treatment?

Is it when they only make up a small percentage of veterans?

Is it when they are part of a unpopular war?

Is when they speak out on veterans issues?

Or is it when they will not let an issue die?

WWI veterans march on Washington for war pensions, only to be driven out by

the men they served beside. Cancer in Vietnam vetreans once wasn't connected

to agent orange. Currently Gulf war vets are suffering from symptoms of a

disease whose cause is still unknown. Some veterans have paid for billboard

ads that deter new recruits. Some veterans have trouble filing claims with

the VA because their records are "Lost or misplaced". 250,000 veterans are

homeless. Some veterans cannot obtain reasonally priced insurance due to

service related disabilities. Some veterans only source of health care is the

VA. Retired military veterans currently have to pay for their own health care

then have to pay for medicare when they reach 65. When do veterans stop being

veterans?
