I agree with Jack. People indiscriminately throw things in the "garbage
can".
In days long gone that was okay - we used to burn our garbage. With today's
EPA rulings you cannot even burn leaves. Where I live (in California) we
have mandatory recycling. Garbage goes in one can and recyclables go in
another.  It's only a "band-aid" because the world generates way too much
trash - but at least it's a step in the right direction. I'm not a tree
hugger
- but I do believe in preserving a country that we fought for.

Ah but the question is: where will the garbage go if there is no NY land
fill? Right now NY trucks garbage to other states and pays to have it
buryed.
Other states are tired of this deal. If it is NY's garbage let them take it.
And dumping it in the sea (as they have also done) is not the answer. Some
day people have to face up to the fact that we make too much throw a way
stuff. And that includes NY.
