A MESSAGE FROM: STEVEN R. JENDERSECK 1SG, USA First Sergeant E-Btry, 1st Bn, 40th FA

I am currently assigned to the 1^st Battalion, 40^th Field Artillery at Fort Sill, OK. I came across your website www.willpete.com looking for a random hero who may have served with 1-40 FA.

We are currently a Basic Combat Training unit, and reward outstanding soldiers at each graduation ceremony. I would like to try and recognize soldiers for : Selfless Service, Rifle Marksmanship, Physical Fitness, and our Distinguished Honor Graduate (top grad overall). My intent is to name these awards after an honorable member of our unit’s history and also have a short biography of the individual the award is named after.

I am very open and hoping for some suggestions from you or your comrades if you would be willing to assist me in this manner. I thank you sir for your time and look forward to hearing from you.

I would like to ask that you link the website for the Vinh Son Orphanage in Kontum, Vietnam to your site. I visited there this February and the kids can really use any help that we can roust up for them.

I trained with the unit when it was formed at Ft. Sill, shipped over to Da Nang and drove to Dong Ha. Served my entire Vietnam tour as chief of C Btry's base piece. Came home for discharge in 1967. Have been to a couple of reunions and look forward to the next one.

I served my entire three years (minus Ft. Sill basic) in HQ 1/40 first as 13E then 13C. I was a rebellious immature fool. Although still not considered a man when I was discharged I was well on my way because of the experiences and people in my life during that time. Thank you all! All for one.

I am proud of my service with the 1/40th in Hanau Germany.I earnsd the Army achievment medal serving with the unit in 1982-83. The linage and honors web sit has humbled me greatly, Still, I am very proud of any contribution I made to this very proud and heroic unit of the United States Army.
