Dreamin' or Lyin'

A Golden Hit song; a dream, a fantasy, an insanity? A song; a friend, a comrade, an enemy? What else would I do?

THE STAGE STANDS COLD AND LONELY

HER MUSIC HAS FADED AWAY

THE RHYTHM OF MY HEART ECHOES SADLY

I CLEAN UP AT NIGHT AND WRITE SONGS IN THE DAY

AS THE BROOM CLOUDS THE DUST FROM THE DANCE FLOOR

I DREAM OF A GOLDEN HIT SONG

AND MY LEAD SHEET THE BASS MAN WOULD GIVE HER

HE KNEW I'D BEEN HOPING SO LONG

WRITING SONGS ALWAYS MAKES ME HAPPY

ODD JOBS KEEP ME IN NEW STRINGS

THE MINUTES TURN TO YEARS SO LONELY

MY TEARS FALL TO SMILE WHEN I SING

WELL THE STAGE IS THE LAST OF MY DUTIES

IT MUST BE SPOTLESS NO CORNER UNTURNED

THERE I SWEEP UP MY CRUMBLED OLD LEAD SHEET

THE PAIN IN MY CHEST STARTS TO BURN

I TURN OUT THE LIGHT AND LOCK THE BACK DOOR

AM I DREAMIN OR LIVIN A LIE

BACK HOME I SIT DOWN WITH MY GUITAR

I WRITE BETTER STILL WHEN I CRY

WRITING SONGS ALWAYS MAKES ME HAPPY

ODD JOBS KEEP ME IN NEW STRINGS

THE MINUTES TURN TO YEARS SO LONELY

MY TEARS FALL TO SMILE WHEN I SING
