Memories...

Copyright 1995 - Will Pete

As a kid I was always fascinated by war stories and wondered what it was like to kill somebody or more honestly what it felt like. I didn't realize what an intensely personal question it was. The answer is beyond mere language for me ; I think its a discussion for vets, etc. Many people have asked me and the only answer I've had is this song to a woman in Australia.

A LONG, LONG TIME AGO WAS TODAY

I WALKED IN A WORLD PREDISPOSED

I SLEPT IN EARTH SOFT AND YIELDING

AND I AWOKE WHENEVER MY EYES CLOSED

YOU ASK DID YOU REALLY, I WONDER

THE PAIN'S BEEN THERE SINCE I ARRIVED

AND THE RAIN THAT I FELT EVERY DAY

HOW WOULD I KNOW, IF I'VE EVER CRIED

MEMORIES, MEMORIES, MEMORIES

LIKE STARS THAT REMIND IN THE NIGHT

TILL DAWN SHINES AGLOW IN BEAUTY

THAT GENTLE HEARTS FIND PEACE IN THE LIGHT

I REALIZE THAT'S NOT YOUR MEANING

BUT, HEAVEN SEEMS SO VERY FAR AWAY

YOUR THOUGHTS TENDER SMILES UNTAINTED

YESTERDAY, IS UNREMEMBERED ONE MORE DAY

MEMORIES, MEMORIES, MEMORIES

I AWAKE SO VERY FAR AWAY

HEAVEN SEEMS JUST A LITTLE CLEARER

MY MEMORIES UNREMEMBERED GO AWAY
