Sneakers and Spurs

Copyright 1997 - Will Pete

Hiking and camping in Hill Country near Bandera, Tx., sitting under a tree with my notepad and guitar, my peaceful solitude was interupted by the clamor of horses' hooves. To my delight two of the woman riders dismounted and stopped to talk and listen to some of my songs. The woman I was most attracted to had red hair and the other had a pair of spurs strapped to her sneakers. Peculiar, at least for a lover of TV westerns, but functional. We had a nice chat and as they rode away, I rode with them in this song.

WELL I PULLED UP TO HER IN MY BLACK MUSTANG

SHE WAS HITCHIN A RIDE, I ASKED HER NAME

RED SHE GRINNED KINDA SPUNKY AND CUTE

AND WITH A STETSON SMILE SHE SAID I'M HEADED FOR KLUTE

I KICKED OPEN THE DOOR, WELL THAT'S MY TOWN

COME RIDE WITH ME AND I'LL SHOW YOU AROUND

SHE TOSSED HER GEAR IN THE BACK KINDA EASY AND SURE

AND WITH HER COWGIRL FRILLS, SHE WORE SNEAKERS AND SPURS

SNEAKERS AND SPURS AND A BLACK MUSTANG

COWGIRL FRILLS GOOD AS FORTUNE AND FAME

RIDE LIKE THE WIND A COWGIRL FREE

WITH HER SNEAKERS AND SPURS, SHE WAS THE GIRL FOR ME

WELL WE DID THE TOWN AND WE TALKED OF THE ROAD

WITH A TEAR IN HER EYE SHE SAID ITS TIME TO GO

SHE HELD ME TIGHT SAID THERE'S PLACES TO SEE

AND IN THE WARMTH OF A KISS SHE SAID COME RIDE WITH ME

WELL I QUIT MY JOB, BOUGHT SOME SNEAKERS AND SPURS

WE WERE PEAS IN A POD, KINDA HIS AND HERS

TURNED THAT MUSTANG WEST IN THE CALM OF HIGH NOON

CAUGHT THE WIND IN OUR HAIR, TURNED OUR DREAMS TO THE MOON

SNEAKERS AND SPURS AND A BLACK MUSTANG

COWGIRL FRILLS GOOD AS FORTUNE AND FAME

RIDE LIKE THE WIND A COWGIRL FREE

WITH HER SNEAKERS AND SPURS, SHE WAS THE GIRL FOR ME
